Understand before you act

Exponential Moving Average, explained

An EMA gives more weight to recent observations. It responds faster than an SMA with the same period.

How Index Screener uses it

EMA 20

EMA 20 starts with a 20-period average, then uses a smoothing weight of 2 / 21 for each new observation.

What it helps you assess

Follow shorter-term changes while smoothing day-to-day noise.

What it cannot tell you

EMA 20 is available as a chart overlay. It does not generate a daily signal badge.

Before an entry or exit

These are learning examples to build your own checklist. They are not tested trading rules or personalized recommendations.

Entry considerations

Look for confirmation

An example is to wait for price to reclaim a rising EMA and then check whether support holds. Treat a single crossing cautiously in a sideways market.

Exit considerations

Follow your risk plan

Review a break below your chosen support or average against your original risk plan. The faster response can also create more false reversals.
