Trend Score, explained

This site’s trend score counts positive trend and momentum conditions. A higher score means more of these conditions are currently present.

How Index Screener uses it

Index Screener composite, 0–6

Two points for close above SMA 200; one each for close above SMA 50, close above SMA 20, RSI above 50, and MACD histogram above zero. Maximum: six.

What it helps you assess

Compare the same set of conditions across indices at a glance.

What it cannot tell you

This is a custom summary, not a win probability, return forecast or the separate Market Risk Indicator (MRI). Its components are correlated.

Before an entry or exit

These are learning examples to build your own checklist. They are not tested trading rules or personalized recommendations.

Entry considerations

Look for confirmation

Use the score to shortlist indices, then inspect the chart, valuation and distance to your planned stop. A high score does not establish a good entry price.

Exit considerations

Follow your risk plan

A falling score can prompt a trend review. Apply your own allocation and risk rules; there is no universal score at which everyone should exit.
