Understand before you act
20-session Closing Breakout, explained
The latest closing level is above every close in the preceding 20 available sessions. It identifies recent closing strength.
How Index Screener uses it
Previous 20 closing observations
Latest close > maximum of the previous 20 closes. Today is excluded from the comparison. An equal close does not activate the signal; at least 21 observations are needed.
What it helps you assess
Shortlist recent strength and examine whether a move has support from the broader trend.
What it cannot tell you
False breakouts occur. This uses closing observations, not intraday highs, and does not predict a profitable trade. Missing sessions can affect the lookback.
Before an entry or exit
These are learning examples to build your own checklist. They are not tested trading rules or personalized recommendations.
Look for confirmation
A learning example waits for follow-through or a retest that holds the breakout level. Check the distance to your planned invalidation level and product costs before considering an entry.
Follow your risk plan
Review a failed breakout against the original risk plan. A return below the reference level can prompt a review; a stop may execute beyond its intended level during a gap.
