Understand before you act

Bollinger Upper Touch, explained

The closing level is at or above the upper volatility band. It is high relative to its recent range.

How Index Screener uses it

Bollinger Bands (20, 2)

Latest closing level is greater than or equal to SMA 20 plus two population standard deviations of the last 20 closing levels.

What it helps you assess

Distinguish a strong move from a possible stretch by checking trend and momentum together.

What it cannot tell you

A strong uptrend can keep following the upper band. A band touch does not prove that the index is expensive.

Before an entry or exit

These are learning examples to build your own checklist. They are not tested trading rules or personalized recommendations.

Entry considerations

Look for confirmation

For a continuation setup, look for follow-through or a pullback that holds support. Avoid assuming an upper-band touch means the index must immediately reverse.

Exit considerations

Follow your risk plan

For an existing position, review the target and trailing stop. A return inside the band with weakening momentum can prompt a review, rather than an automatic sale.
